We here at Carlson Gracie are very proud of the wrestling team at Chaparral High School. We even have a few of their alumni that train with us, and they are amazing wrestlers. Great job for putting on a great show at the Temecula Valley Invitational!
TEMECULA — It's not that wrestlers Jon Wixom and Brad Christensen are necessarily homebodies. Still, it was nice to have a major high school wrestling tournament right in their own backyard this week.
The Chaparral High wrestlers made themselves comfortable in the familiar surroundings at the Temecula Valley Invitational on Saturday, collecting medals at an event that was loaded with some of the premier wrestlers and programs in the state.
Both Wixom, who was third at 182 pounds, and Christensen, who was seventh at 160, are juniors with designs on state-meet medals in March.
"I came in here with high expectations, but competing here was really tough," said Christensen, who defeated Alex Markowski of Colorado Springs (Colo.) Pine Creek 5-0 in the seventh-place match. "All the top schools are here. It was good to get Chaparral's name out there…"
